Is Asus a good laptop brand?

May 18, 2021

Well, having purchased a laptop for myself to cater to my work requirements just a few hours ago after extensive research over a period of eight days, I would state that when it comes to buying a laptop, Asus as a manufacturer of laptops stands tall on almost every parameter - be it the durability of the hardware components installed(the hinges of the screen, the plastic quality, the tactility of keyboard, etc., feel more robust and well put together), be it their warranty terms and conditions, be it the cost and ease of availability of after-sales service, be it in terms of ease of upgradation of hardware.

The brand has some really deep pockets and it spends millions of dollars in R&D every year in improving its existing products and in inventing better cooling technologies to keep the CPU from throttling even at heavy loads. Developing technologically advanced hardware components that draw less power and produce less heat is also a domain the brand spends heavily on.

But, one area where Asus can improve slightly is in terms of responsiveness and the precision of the touch pad it installs in its laptops. In comparison to brands like HP, Apple, Dell, etc., the touch pads in Asus laptops requires one to get a little used to. Two reasons for this could be dated/faulty device drivers and maladjusted trackpad settings. Often the issues are resolved with a software update, however sometimes they are hardware related, and one can certainly get habitual of the newer settings in no time.
